Places to visit in Sri Lanka


Sri Lanka is a beautiful country with an abundance of natural resources, beautiful beaches, mountains and rivers. It is a stunning island with something for almost everyone to enjoy. From scuba diving, swimming, surfing to golf, trekking and gambling, Sri Lanka has it all and therefore makes for a great holiday destination.

Colombo – It is the commercial capital and also the largest city on the island of Sri Lanka with plenty of shopping centers and all the facilities of a typical metropolitan city.
Colombo has a relaxed lazy charm and an active night life with many clubs and casinos. The popular sights of Colombo are:
•  Clock tower
•  President's residence
•  Colonial buildings
•  Cinnamon Gardens
•  Dehiwala Zoo

Galle – Situated 116 km south of Colombo on the southwest corner of Sri Lanka, Galle is a well preserved Dutch fort built by Europeans in the 16 th century.
Kandy – Also known as the cultural capital of Sri Lanka Kandy is an important tourist destination. It is the second largest city in Sri Lanka and major attractions include
•  World's End
•  Adam's Peak
•  Dalada Maligawa showcasing the Sacred Tooth of Buddha
Anuradhapura – This was the first capital of Sri Lanka and is considered the most important ancient city. It constitutes the oldest temple called Thuparama Dagoba . Owing to its many historically significant monuments, this city is known to be an archeologist's delight.
Nuwara Eliya – Known as “little England,” Nuwara Eliya was the home of the English planters during the days of the British rule. Today it is a premier hill resort owing to its splendid scenic beauty. Major attraction includes the highest mountain peak named Pidurutalagala (2524 m).
Sigiriya – It is one of the leading tourist destinations of Sri Lanka located in the north- central province of the island. This Splendid rock fortress is an archeologist's dream with its outstanding 15 century old frescoes.
Dambulla – This place is renowned for its cave temples and is located at a distance of 19 km from Sigiriya on the Sigiriya–Kandy road. Dambulla consists of over eighty caves and huge paintings of the reclining Buddha adorn the interiors of these caves.
